What is Age Related Slumping?
Slumping or a very Hunched Back is so common in aging that we take it for granted that it’s inevitable over time. And all of us hate it! Slumping doesn’t just look bad aesthetically. It also makes us lean forward and increases the chances that we’ll trip and fall while walking. Slumping is one of the most common complaints and unless we work to counteract it, it will affect almost everyone at some point in their life.
What causes slumping?
The conventional wisdom is that ‘our core is too weak’ or our ‘shoulder retractors’ are weak. If that were the case, then why are so many strong, well exercised adults still so slumped?
The root cause of slumping is almost always more about tightness than lack of strength. So the way out of slumping is a sophisticated approach to loosening chronically stiff muscles and strengthening some muscles that we haven’t even been aware of.
Working on posture is one of the most satisfying things we can do for ourselves and it makes us feel better and look better.
